6 Stops on the Darke County Whiskey, Wine & Ale Trail

With breathtaking Ohio farmland, beautiful scenery and charming small towns, the country roads of Darke County welcomes visitors to slow down and enjoy the peacefulness of western Ohio.

Darke County Whiskey, Wine & Ale Trail

The Darke County Whiskey, Wine & Ale Trail consists of three wineries, two breweries and one distillery located throughout Darke, Mercer and Miami counties. This one-of-a-kind touring destination invited me to explore the picturesque views of western Ohio while enjoying a relaxed tasting experience at locally owned and operated spirit-making facilities.

A.R. Winery

Located in the small, farming community of Arcanum, A.R. Winery welcomes visitors with a friendly smile and sweet Ohio wines. We were greeted by the owners, Russell and Angie, whom poured our wine samples and made us feel right at home in their cozy winery! Along with eleven delicious award-winning wines, visitors can enjoy pizzas from their brick oven, gorgeous country views and if you are lucky enough, can meet Fuel, the owners’ beloved pup who graces the wine labels!

Kennedy Vineyard

Located just outside of New Madison, Kennedy Vineyard offers twelve varieties of wine including blush, fruity, white and red. Visitors can enjoy gourmet flatbread pizzas and homemade soups and peaceful views while sipping on award-winning wines.

Winery at Versailles

Nestled among corn and soybean fields, just outside the quaint village of Versailles, is the Winery at Versailles. With over twenty dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, sweet, dessert and sparkling wines to choose from, visitors can find a wine to satisfy any palate!  Enjoy award-winning wines, a Bistro-style menu and gorgeous country views at the Winery at Versailles!

*All three wineries are located in Darke County.

Moeller Brew Barn

Brewing craft beer for the past year, in the scenic countryside near Maria Stein, Moeller Brew Barn produces over fifteen quality craft beers. Take a seat in the open tap room to view the brewery at work or sit outside for scenic country views, either way this local brew barn welcomes visitors to enjoy the brews and to relax in its friendly atmosphere.

Tailspin Brewing Company

Located in a historic dairy barn in Coldwater, this brewery produces seven craft beers. Preserving the heritage of the historical dairy barn but adding the owner’s love of aviation, Tailspin Brewing Company has become a popular watering-hole for locals and visitors alike. With a welcoming atmosphere in the historical barn, tasty craft beers and gorgeous country views, a visit to Tailspin Brewing Company won’t disappoint!

*Both breweries are located in Mercer County. Take extra time to drive through the “Land of the Cross-Tipped Churches” nearby the breweries, to view gorgeous Catholic Churches. Many are over a century old! Trust me, you can spot the beautiful architecture of the churches while driving!

Indian Creek Distillery

Located on Staley Mill Farm, nearby the quaint town of New Carlisle, Indian Creek Distillery has been operated as a family-owned farm and distillery for over 200 years. Visitors can enjoy tasting rye whiskeys, take a Stillhouse Tour or Walk through Whiskey History Tour, and enjoy the scenic views of Indian Creek.

*The distillery is located in Miami County.

Although the drive between trail stops is very scenic, some places are over forty miles apart. I would recommend making a weekend getaway to drive the trail, explore the birthplace of the famous sharpshooter, Annie Oakley, visit the historic Bear’s Mill, tour the KitchenAid Factory and enjoy the friendly communities and gorgeous country views!
