Great Music, Great City, Great Friends – Macy’s Music Festival
When summer arrives, I look forward to three things: the warmth of the sun’s rays, cookouts and the Macy’s Music Festival. It’s the perfect weekend getaway trip for me and my girlfriends as we pile in the car and make our way towards Cincinnati.
Every year I’m eager to see how the organizers outdo themselves. With past performers like Erykah Badu, EnVogue, Mary J. Blige and other great musical talents, I know that each time I go, I will have a blast. This year proves to be no exception. On the stage at Paul Brown Stadium this July 29 and 30, will be some of my favorites, including the talented El Debarge, Charlie Wilson, Keyshia Cole, Chaka Khan and more special guests.
It’s great to see so many people from all over the country come together to hear everything from rhythm & blues, jazz, hip hop and neo-soul. Last year I met a couple who had traveled from Toronto just to hear Teena Marie. Little did they know it would be their last opportunity to see her grace that stage before she passed away months later.
Even with all the excitement inside the stadium, there’s a lot happening outside. At Festival 513, vendors sell food, art and other merchandise in a true street-fair style. Over at Fountain Square, located a few blocks away, summer-long programming draws crowds to watch free movies on Friday nights and the PNC Music series on Saturdays provides an opportunity to hear a diverse selection of music with a free concert in the park.
The Macy’s Music Festival has been going on since 1962 when it was called the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival. This awesome celebration of music draws more than 50,000 people annually, and has become recognized as one of Ohio’s best music festivals!
So while I’m heading down Interstate 71 later this month, my excitement will grow as I know I’ll be Livin’ for the Weekend at the Macy’s Music Festival! What about you?
