Ohio/Regional Media List
The Office of TourismOhio maintains an Ohio and regional media list through our public relations agency that we are happy to share with Ohio’s tourism industry members. Just give any of the Public Relations staff a call or drop us an email. We will email you a media list in Excel format with tabs for Ohio and our contiguous states along with print and broadcast media. You may then customize the list for your use to target the media most likely to share your information.
The Office of TourismOhio typically leads two media missions each year to markets rich in national and/or regional media outlets (print, broadcast, online, social media, freelance, bloggers, etc.).
Location/Timing The national media mission to New York, NY, is held annually in January or February. Additional missions are scheduled based on time availability and story timing. For example, the Office of TourismOhio has led past missions to New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Washington, D.C.; and Des Moines, IA (Meredith Publishing). How do the missions work? The Office of TourismOhio sets the location and date for each media mission then puts out a call for industry interested in participating. We look for industry with timely stories that would be of interest to writers in the selected media market. The Tourism Office’s public relations agency then works on our behalf to secure meetings with desirable travel media. Our small group of Ohio Tourism Industry members usually travel to our destination the afternoon or evening before meetings are scheduled, then conduct a day and a half of face-to-face meetings.
Cost There is no cost to join a media mission, however, participants need to budget to pay their own travel expenses including air/ground transportation, lodging meals, transit (taxi, subway, train, etc.) to meetings, etc.
Mini-Missions are one-day versions of the missions described above. We have designed these missions to provide an opportunity for industry members to share stories that appeal to a closer, feeder market audience such as Indianapolis, IN; Detroit, MI; Pittsburgh, PA; Huntington, WV; or Louisville, KY; as opposed to a national audience.
Location/Timing Mini-Missions are more casual and come about on a shorter time frame than our national/large regional missions. Regional media outlets are generally interested in tourism experiences within closer geographic proximity to their audience.
Cost We minimize costs by seeking industry partners reasonably close in proximity to the media market so they can usually drive to and from a day of appointments with no need for an overnight.

Custom Press Trips
There is no better result from a media mission or pitch than a qualified writer, blogger or broadcaster who wants to visit Ohio so they can share their experiences with the world. At the Office of TourismOhio, we accommodate such requests through our Custom Press Trip program.
Custom press trips are conducted on an as-requested basis driven by media interest. We accommodate media by working with you, our industry members, to create a loose itinerary based on what the writer wants to see, and to the best of our abilities, on the dates the writer wants to visit Ohio.
Ohio’s tourism industry members have the opportunity to help make itinerary suggestions, potentially host/meet the writer, serve as liaisons with other industry members in the area, provide press materials, etc. Depending on the writer’s needs/request, industry members may be asked for assistance by providing comped or reduced rates for attraction/experience/event admission, lodging or meals.
We also are happy to help you vet prospective press trip media who may contact you directly.
The Ohio.org Online Press Room is equipped to post a limited number of industry press releases in addition to releases issued from the Office of TourismOhio. We look for the most outstanding, timely releases to feature.

The Office of TourismOhio is engaged in a targeted, proactive blogger relations program targeting some of the top influential travel-related bloggers in contiguous states. In addition to cultivating relationships with these bloggers, we will be inviting them to come and experience Ohio so they can better help us share Ohio’s tourism stories. In short, our intention is to engage with bloggers in a manner that will ultimately generate earned media placements.
