TourismOhio Takes Next Step in Plan to Promote Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – TourismOhio is moving forward with its strategic plan to promote Ohio tourism by selecting two Ohio-based marketing companies to create the brand architecture for the state, develop creative and buy media. The companies, Cult Marketing and Marcus Thomas LLC, were chosen through a competitive bid process in which 20 proposals were submitted.
“The level of interest was truly exciting as was the quality of the companies that applied,” said Mary Cusick, chief of TourismOhio. “The selected marketing agencies stood out through their proposals, presentations and bodies of work. This is a major step toward creating a brand for that will inspire visitors to consider Ohio as a destination of choice.”
Cult Marketing was selected to assist TourismOhio with the branding and creative services work, which will be research-based. In addition, Marcus Thomas was selected to conduct media planning and ad placement to promote Ohio tourism.
This comes on the heels of completing the first-ever TourismOhio Strategic Plan for increasing visitors in Ohio. It was completed in January 2015 after a 6-month collaborative process with the Ohio tourism industry, including the TourismOhio Advisory Board. With the foundation in place, TourismOhio is now executing the plan to aggressively market Ohio as a distinctive and unforgettable travel experience.
“It is important that we are accountable for taxpayer dollars by selecting the best available marketing companies to develop an inspiring brand that will result in increased tourism revenue for the state,” said David Goodman, the director of the Ohio Development Services Agency which houses TourismOhio.
Ohio tourism is a major contributor to the economic prosperity of the state. It is a $38 billion industry and, in 2013, Ohio saw 195 million visits. Tourism also supports 405,000 jobs in Ohio.
A new brand will begin to launch later in 2015. In the meantime, TourismOhio will continue promoting Ohio through public relations efforts as well as radio, print and digital campaigns highlighting the 2015 Ohio Travel Guide and downloadable App for Apple and Android tablets and smartphones.
