Memories of the Bellville Street Fair
September is officially here! For some, it means cooler temperatures and a prelude to winter. For my family, it means that the Bellville Street Fair is around the corner – Sept. 14-17!
Some of the things I enjoyed about “The World’s Fair” when I was a little Chatterbox, I still enjoy today. The food has got to be one of the first things we think of when we’re on our way. As nutty as we are, we start mapping out what stand we want to hit up first. Our first stop is typically at the steak on a stick covered wagon. It’s pretty cool that each year we go, the people running the wagon recognize us (the first signs of an addiction). From there for me, it’s off to the Fried Swiss Cheese stand! Think of it as a corn dog with a solid-melted cheese middle. Mmm mmm mmm! To close out the night in the food department, I will hit up Joe’s big Pulled Pork Stand. The price on this for what you get in return is incredible! A large Pulled Pork sammich with potato salad or coleslaw is in the ballpark of $6. I always go for his hottest BBQ sauce he has. It tastes great with some zip to it!
This year will mark my Punkin’s 4th Street Fair and she is already excited for it! Somebody let it slip about going and we’ve been hearing about it since. Last year was her first year to ride rides aside from the carousel. She had the biggest time! The best value obviously is to buy the wrist band. They can get on and on and on each and every ride (as long as they are the correct height, of course). Zoe’s particular favorite ride was the little dino cars and motorcycles. As a parent, this adds a new element to an already fun weekend. Aside from the food and the rides, Zoe really enjoys checking out the farm animals.
This year, Mike Albert returns with his “Ultimate Elvis Tribute” on Saturday the 17th (7pm) and we’re totally excited about it. This will be about the 6th time we’ve seen him and he is as authentic as it gets! I was able to dig up a picture from the last time he was in Bellville. Pretty impressive, but he actually sounds like Elvis rather than somebody who tries to do a poor rendition of “Hound Dog”. If you’re coming out to see him, be sure to come say hello to me and my family. We’ll be camped out in the front row somewhere! 😀 I promise I’ll be nice (for a peanut butter and banana sandwhich)!
There are many other fairs this weekend including the Ashland County Fair and the Hocking County Fair, but the Bellville Street Fair is where its at for my family. If you have any questions or comments, please be sure to add some comments for me. I’ll be sure to respond rather quickly! If you’re on twitter, be sure to follow me @_The_Chatterbox to keep up with the latest happenings in my neck of the woods! Until next time…

Brad (The Chatterbox)
