5 Pie Places You Need to Try

There are more than 3.14159265359 reasons to have a slice of pie at these Northeast Ohio spots.

Pi Day, March 14, is the perfect day to devour the mouth-watering, locally-made pies you’ve been craving all winter long! Ready your taste buds and check out these Northeast Ohio bakeries for some tasty treats!

Luna Bakery & Cafe

One of the only true “scratch bakeries” in Northeast Ohio, Luna uses the best quality ingredients while baking everything from scratch. The delicious pie dough is all butter and made from hand, and the cafe offers plenty of different filling options according to the season. The specialty at Luna Bakery & Cafe in Cleveland Heights is either the Apple Streusel or the Bourbon Pecan pies, but you might want to order some Take & Bake Maple Pecan Sticky Buns, too, or Pumpkin Macarons while you’re there.

If you’re in the mood for something a little colder, head to either of the Shake Shack locations in Cleveland and order a frozen custard. The burger chain used Luna’s pies to mix into their frozen custard desserts called concretes.

Kay’s Place

Within shouting distance of I-90 near the Pennsylvania border, Kay’s Place in Kinsgville has the kind of down-home food you’d expect at your grandma’s table. It’s the place for comfort food classics like meatloaf, liver and onions and pork chops. But even more tempting than the home style cooking are the delicious pies. Just as you walk in the door, Made-from-scratch pies fill a display case in varieties like Coconut Cream, Banana, Blueberry, Lemon Meringue, Pumpkin and others. The Chocolate pie, with a creamy custard inside and whipped cream stacked high, is a crowd favorite.

Mustard Seed Market & Cafe

Does someone on your guest list or in your family need to avoid certain ingredients? Then order your pie through Mustard Seed Market & Cafe, with locations in Solon and Akron. Take your pick from Vegan Pumpkin Pie – the pumpkin purre is creamed with tofu instead of dairy. They also have gluten-free pies available for ordering. Or go the savory route and get their famous Chicken Pot Pie, are handmade with an all butter crust and Ohio Naturally Raised Chicken Breast.

Miles Farmers Market

The bakery cases at Miles Market in Solon are lined with pies. If you consider yourself a traditionalist, try the Apple pie, but if you’re looking for something different, there are plenty of options like Apple Caramel Walnut. Or, ditch the apples altogether and get the Fruits of the Forest pie instead – sweet, juicy, and a tasty alternative to the usual berry varieties.

Patterson Fruit Farm

A blanket of buttery, golden crumbles with specks of cinnamon coat tart apple slices baked until they just begin to meld into one another. No wonder Dutch Apple pies from Patterson Fruit Farm in Chesterland are the favorite. With a wide selection of pies, like Caramel Applenut, Cranberry-Apple, Cherry, Apple Dumplings and others, you are guaranteed to find a flavor you’ll love. After gorging on the delicious pies, stop by the farm market and gift area for more treats to take home.
