John H. Ashton began working in a variety store at the age of 12 and continued to work in the retail business until his death at the age of 99 in 2005. He and his late wife Evelyn were not only successful in business but they were committed to community service. At one time John and Evelyn owned 11 different Ben Franklin Stores. Ashton’s 5 & 10 store is the living legacy of John H. & Evelyn Ashton and is run by there foundation Ashton Preservation Association. The store offers a little bit of everything, from party supplies, fabric and sewing notions, greeting cards, stationary, school supplies, trinkets, seasonal decorations and a candy counter that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
