About Fort Ancient Earthworks and Nature Preserve

Fort Ancient Earthworks & Nature Preserve is a 2,000-year-old, human-made earthworks enclosure located on a wooded bluff above the Little Miami River. Comprised of nearly 3 1/2 miles of earthen walls that were constructed over a 400 year period, Fort Ancient features mounds, stone pavements, crescent-shaped gateways, and remnants of a woodhenge that were designed to align with both the summer and winter solstices.The site features a Museum spanning 15,000 years of Ohio history that includes a small meeting space, as well as a prehistoric-themed garden, scenic trails, overlooks, and picnic opportunities.
