Dr. Peter Allen traveled from New England to arrive in the frontier town of Kinsman, Ohio, in the year 1808. Seeking to embrace new, scientific advances, he soon became a founder of what would become the Ohio Medical Society. In 1821, Dr. Allen hired architect-builder, Willis Smith of Connecticut, to construct his home. This would become Smith's most memorable accomplishment and a crowned jewel of Federal Neo-Classical architecture in the Ohio Western Reserve territory.Fast forward to 2010. Area resident Richard Thompson had already dedicated himself to preserving the community's heritage and farmland. Realizing the architectural importance of the house, the significant contributions from the Allen family to the field of medicine and the architectural genius of the builder, Thompson decided to take the enormous step to save the house for posterity. The Richard and Rhonda Thompson Foundation was created to restore historic buildings and the Allen House was selected as a primary project. The Peter Allen Inn & Event Center officially opened on February 3, 2016.Today, the Peter Allen Inn & Event Center has become northeast Ohio's premier venue to host events for all occasions. It is an exquisite piece of Kinsman's history that offers elaborate event spaces, luxurious overnight accommodations and extraordinary culinary experiences.
