About The Sorrowful Mother Shrine

Founded in 1850, the Sorrowful Mother Shrine sits on 140 acres of wooded ground. The Shrine is dedicated to Mary and is one of the oldest places of pilgrimage in the Midwest. The Shrine is an inspiring place to reflect and refresh where God and nature come together. Need a place to retreat and unwind or plan a day of pilgrimage? Plan a visit to this holy historical site. Mass and Confession are offered on a daily basis. Meals are available for groups if pre-arranged. The Shrine also offers a large religious gift shop.
