This Mother’s Day, treat your mom to one of Ohio’s unique local adventures. From hiking to candle-making, there’s no shortage of fun and memorable activities. Spend a little or spend a lot, either way, she won’t forget.
Candle Lab in Columbus
Pay a visit to one of the Candle Lab’s locations with your mom this Mother’s Day and spend the afternoon making custom candles. Smells are one of the strongest triggers for memories, so every time she burns her candle, she’ll remember the lovely day you spent together. If you go to the Short North location, take a walk and get some Jeni’s ice cream or lunch at one of the endless restaurants while you wait for the Candle Lab team to finish creating your one-of-a-kind candle.
Picnic on Edgewater Beach
Rustle up your mom’s favorite lunch food and take it on down to Edgewater Beach for a cute picnic. You can take fun mother/child photos with the gorgeous backdrop of the Cleveland skyline. Don’t feel like bringing your own? Pop into The Pier Grille & Bait Shop or Merwin’s Wharf for some waterfront dining.
Plan an island getaway without having to leave the state. Take a ferry over to Put-in-Bay for the day (or make reservations at one of the hotels) and take your mom around on a golf cart to check out the shops and attractions. Stop by one of the wineries and do some tasting, or grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. You could even try your hand at paddle boarding or kayaking.
Spend the day exploring with your mom at one of Hocking Hills’s many trails. Take a leisurely stroll down one of the easier paths, or challenge yourselves on a more difficult one. Don’t forget to stop and take selfies at Old Man’s Cave waterfall or in the vastness of Ash Cave. Hiking not for you? Try horseback riding instead. Afterwards, you can stop at Grandma Faye’s for some well-deserved ice cream.
Findlay Market and Krohn Conservatory
Treat your one-of-a-kind mom to a one-of-a-kind experience and explore Cincinnati’s Findlay Market, an outdoor public market with fresh local produce, entertainment, and hand-made goods. Afterwards (or if markets aren’t your speed), pop on over to Krohn Conservatory to admire the stunning art-deco architecture and array of plant life. You might even get to see a butterfly show, where thousands of butterflies are released to fly free within the showroom.
Whether you and your mom are outdoors-y or love shopping local, there’s plenty to treat your mother to in Ohio this Mother’s Day.
