Ohio Salutes Veterans

Honoring our Ohio veterans not only happens on an individual basis; community establishments also join in to show their appreciation for the services of our veterans. Throughout the state, there are many museums, venues and restaurants that offer either discounted or complimentary perks to veterans. Here are just a few offered throughout Ohio:



:Bob Evans was a veteran, and his eponymous restaurants offer select free items on November 11 and a 10% discount from November 12 to December 31.

Many other chains are offering discounts or free meals, including Applebees, IKEA, Chipotle, TGI Fridays and an extensive list of others.

Some museums like the National Museum of the US Air Force are always free, but did you know that there is a Memorial Park that honors units and people associated with the USAF? The park includes more than 500 memorials in the form of statues, plaques, trees and benches.

The Merry-Go-Round Museum in Sandusky invites member of the military for a free visit.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame, in partnership with Goodyear, is offering all veterans and a guest free admission for the entire month of November.

Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens in Akron offer complimentary self-guided tours of the Manor House and grounds.

Ohio Veterans Home Museum is free for all and displays memorabilia from not only conflicts abroad, but also from the Civil War, including Ohio’s own Johnson Island.

Other Events and Activities


Grab your bowling ball and head to Main Event Entertainment and enjoy a free hour of bowling.

All aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway. Veterans, first-responders and their families ride free through Cuyahoga Valley National Park from both Akron and Independence stations.

Through November 11th, the Akron Zoo offers free admission for military members, past and present.

Miami University is providing both veterans and first-responders with discounted tickets to athletic events.


Don’t forget local parades like the Veterans Parade in Columbus taking place on November 10th or the ceremony put on by American Legion Post 449 of Akron that has been going on for over 60 years. The theme at the Athens parade is “Thanks to all veterans who saved our country and protected our freedom.” And that says it all.
