Countdown to 25 Can't Miss Holiday Events in Ohio

The holidays are here and that means magic and adventure. Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with these holiday happenings across the state.

The holidays are lit when you check out the Guernsey County Courthouse Light Show in Cambridge. From Nov. 1 - Jan. 1, go see this amazing light show featuring more than 66,000 lights and 60 animated displays. On Nov. 23 at 6PM you can watch Downtown Sidney's Grand Illumination at the courthouse square. Or head over for the Licking County Courthouse Lighting in downtown Newark (Nov. 25 - Jan. 1) and the Muskingum County Courthouse Light Show in Zanesville (Nov. 30 - Jan. 1). 

Turn the page for holiday fun. The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio in Lancaster's exhibit "A Storybook Christmas featuring A Very Brady Holiday" showcases classic Christmas books. The rooms are decorated for the holidays and you'll also be able to see a collection of toys, plus costumes from the Brady Bunch TV series and movies.The exhibit runs from Nov. 2 - Dec. 31.

Twinkle Twinkle little star. The Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati becomes a twinkling wonderland from Nov. 3 - Jan. 8 for their "Celestial Holiday." You can take in the season at Cleveland Botanical Gardens "Twinkle in the 216" from Nov. 19 - Dec. 31, and Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus with "Conservatory Aglow" from Nov. 19 - Jan. 8 (plus "Holiday Blooms" from Nov. 19 - Jan. 8). Or experience Christmas at Kingwood from Nov. 26 - Dec. 3 in Mansfield (and don't forget to check out Downtown Mansfield RCDG Holiday Lights too). Lastly, stroll through lights and decorations at The Dawes Arboretum in Newark for their "Winter Wonders Walk" on Dec. 2-3, 9-10 & 16-17

All aboard for a trip to the North Pole! The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is heading to Santa's home this season for the North Pole Adventure™ train rides (Nov. 11-22 & 25-30, Dec. 1- 21).

O' Christmas Tree how lovely are thy lighted branches. Easton's Grand Illumination on Nov. 18 (6-9PM) kicks-off the holiday season. On Nov. 26 at 6PM, the Village of Piketon's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place at Riverfront Park. Stick around, as their Holiday Tree Extravaganza goes from Nov. 26 - Jan. 1. Starting on Nov. 30 (going thru Jan. 2), Tipp City hosts its 3rd Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Program in City Park – part "Christmas in the Park."

Discover the nativity story when you visit The Christmas Cave in Minford from Nov. 18-19, 25-26 and Dec. 2-3, 9-10 & 16-17. Afterwards, travel to Columbus for State Auto's Christmas Corner. The E. Broad St. display features an historic life-sized Nativity display.

It's all horsing around at Greenville's Hometown Holiday Horse Parade. The parade begins at 7PM on Nov. 19. Or head to Lebanon on Dec. 3 for their annual Horse Drawn Carriage Parade & Festival

Step into the past when you visit the Memories of Christmas Past Exhibit at Arms Family Museum in Youngstown. The exhibit runs from Nov. 19 - Dec. 31. Or stop by Sauder Village on Nov. 26 for 1920s Holidays on Main Street. You can step back even further in time for Christmas in Zoar on Dec. 3-4 and the Historic Roscoe Village Christmas Candlelighting Ceremony on Dec. 3 & 10

Keep the holidays on track when you visit the Huntington HolidayTrain at Columbus Metropolitan Library's Main Branch. Featuring 280 feet of track, this snow-covered train display is on view from Nov. 22 - Jan. 8. Or head to Fremont for the "Hayes Train Special" model train display on Nov. 25 (9AM - 5PM)

Fortify your festivities with Christmas at the Fort from Nov. 22 - Jan. 7. Historic Fort Steuben and Fort Steuben Park in Steubenville features a holiday market, music, and family-friendly activities. In Perrysburg, stop by Fort Meigs for their Holiday Open House on Dec. 11 from 12-5PM

Stroll through charming towns that feel right out of a postcard. A Village Christmas to Remember in Caldwell transforms the town from Nov. 23 - Jan. 7 into a happening holiday spot. A highlight are the Christmas Donkeys from White Oak Farms on Dec. 10. In Central Ohio, Village Lights illuminates the German Village neighborhood on Dec. 4 from 5-9PM into a winter wonderland of local treats, live performances, and even a visit from Santa! 

Don't be Scrooge this holiday season, go watch a production of this classic Christmas tale. Cleveland's Great Lakes Theatre production of A Christmas Carol will be at the Miami Ohio Theatre from Nov. 25 - Dec. 23. Or enjoy some wacky rhyming with The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati's A Seussified Christmas Carol from Nov. 28 - Dec. 18. For an interactive experience with iconic Dickens' hosts, check out CincyPlay's Mr. and Mrs. Fezziwig's Holiday Party from Dec. 14-18

Tidings of comfort and joy resound when you visit Light Up Camp! Every Friday and Saturday from Nov. 25 - Dec. 24 (6-10PM) at Flying Horse Horse Farms in Mt. Gilead, drive-thru a three-mile showcase of lights and an animated light show. The attraction is free to the public (with a suggested donation to support FHF - whose mission is making it possible for children with serious illnesses to heal, grow, and thrive).

'Tis the season to be jolly! You'll feel the holiday spirit activate when you visit Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron for Deck the Hall: Gracious Gatherings on select evenings from Nov. 25 - Dec. 30. Continue walking the halls of holiday-card worthy homes with Holidays at Adena Mansion & Gardens in Chillicothe on Dec. 3-4 (plus their Children's Weekend on Dec. 10-11), and the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont. "Lights of Spiegel Grove" on Dec. 8 is a day of festive lights and seasonal sleigh and trolley ride, where "Hayes Home Holidays" features tours of the estate (Dec. 17-18 & 21-22)

Camels, Llamas, and goats - oh my! Family Traditions Animal Adventures in West Union welcomes guests to feed and visit the animals while enjoying their Christmas Light Display. The display is up from Nov. 25 - Jan. 1, and on select days there'll be special appearances from characters like The Grinch and Santa. 

Find festive fun at WinterLand in Cleveland. Make your way to Public Square in Downtown Cleveland on Nov. 26 at 4PM for the kick-off event: Holiday Lighting Ceremony. All season long (Nov. 26 - Feb. 28) the city will host numerous events and activities from local shopping to Santa in the Square. 

Take to the streets for the Merry-Etta Christmas Parade on Nov. 26 at 6PM. For something more unique, take a trip to Marion for their "All is Bright" Lighted Truck Christmas Parade, also on Nov. 26 from 6-9 PM. Or head over for the annual Steubenville Christmas Parade on Dec. 3 at 12PM. And don't forget to strut your pup for the Jingle Dog Parade on Dec. 3 from 12-3PM in Cuyahoga Falls.

It's music to your ears when you attend the Cleveland Pops Holiday Spectacular! on Nov. 27 at 2PM or the Holiday Pops Spectacular with Tony DeSare from the Columbus Symphony on Dec. 2-4

Something wicked this way comes. Krampus, the Christmas monster, is making its way through Ohio. Over in Wapakoneta on Dec. 3 at 4PM is the Krampus Krawl, a bar crawl that highlights Krampus folklore while raising money for charity. Or head to Strongwater in Columbus for The Merry Krampus on Dec. 10 from 10AM - 4PM. This holiday market is perfect for getting that unique seasonal gift. If you're still craving more of the Yule Lord, the Ohio Krampus Society has several chances to experience this seasonal figure throughout November and December.   

There's no bah-humbug'ing at the Ohio Village's "Dickens of a Christmas." The 19th-century holiday-themed event from Ohio History Connection in Columbus takes place on Dec. 3-4, 10-11 & 17-18 and features appearances from Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, Jacob Marley, Ebenezer Scrooge, Krampus, and many more! 

Visions of sugar-plums dance in your head when you see a performance of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker. Columbus' BalletMet performances run from Dec. 8 -24. The Dayton Ballet takes to the stage for their run on Dec. 9-11 & 16-18

The night is long and full of trees. On Dec. 16 from 6-8:30PM, join Lake Erie Nature in Science in Bay Village for a lantern-lit night hike through woods. Or make your way to Columbus for the Winter Solstice Labyrinth Walk and Conifer Tour at Chadwick Arboretum on Dec. 21 from 4-7PM. The West Woods (part of Geauga Park District) also hosts a Winter Solstice Celebration on Dec. 21 from 7:30-9:30PM.

The Festival of Lights begins with Menorah lightings across Ohio. Celebrate the first night of Hanukkah at Easton Town Center with their Menorah Lighting on Dec. 18 at 5PM and Cleveland Public Sqaure's Menorah Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 21 from 5:30-6:30PM

Seven days of celebration take place at Ohio History in Columbus for their series of Kwanzaa events from Dec. 26-31. Or head to Cleveland History Center for their Kwanzaa Celebration on Dec. 31 from 12-3PM.

Ring in the New Year with the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA) New Year's Eve celebration, "New Year's Eve: Voyage à Paris." The concert on Dec. 31 at 7:30PM features performances from Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Continue your journey into the new year with Hocking Valley Scenic Railway's New Years Eve Train & Fireworks on Dec. 31 at 10:30PM
