It's always a fun time when you visit Ohio State Parks and Lodges during the year, but the holiday season makes these close-to-home getaways even more exciting. So, get your cameras ready, because these Lodges are decked with holiday cheer!
For example, this year there are now more than 100 nutcrackers onsite at Punderson Manor to take pictures with.
Beyond the beautifully decorated lodges, the unique ambiance and tranquil winter view outside the windows, each location offers a special warmth when visiting with family during the holidays. Here are a few of the activities planned at Ohio State Parks to add just a little more magic to the season.
Shawnee Lodge in West Portsmouth
While making memories with friends, family or loved ones this holiday at Shawnee Lodge, don't miss out on Breakfast with Santa (Dec. 11 from 9-11AM). Afterwards, you can decorate cookies when you bring a non-perishable donation. All donations will help those around the Portsmouth area for the holidays.
Maumee Bay Lodge in Oregon
Maumee Bay Lodge in Northern Ohio transforms into an unforgettable indoor Winter Carnival on Dec. 27-30 (from 10AM to 2PM and 4-8PM). This is a family-fun event with dozens of indoor activities like Jacob’s Ladder, inflatables, jousting and other activities. You can win prizes from games and when you are tired from playing at the Winter Carnival, you can enjoy the heated pool or relax by the fireplace in the decorated lodge.
Punderson Manor in Newbury
Punderson Manor is one of the most historic and most scenic Ohio State Park Lodges and it really comes alive during the holidays. One of the most popular and beloved holiday traditions at Punderson Manor is Breakfast with Santa. Children love the time they get to spend with Santa over a great meal and surrounded by the meticulously decorated lodge. Pull up a seat on Dec. 5, 12 & 19 from 8AM to 12PM.
In the nearby Geauga Park District enjoy the longest night of the year by taking part in an illuminated walk with the Solstice Night Hike. This outdoor program (on Dec. 19-21 at 7 & 8:30PM), will get you into the holiday spirit before you retreat back to Punderson Manor for a restful night's sleep.
Salt Fork State Lodge in Lore City
Salt Fork Lodge is the perfect way to enjoy winter from inside nestled in the over-sized leather chairs next to the fireplace or in a rocking chair by one of the lodge's towering glass windows. The lodge is gearing up for its annual Christmas Open House and Buffet on Dec. 19 (from 1-6PM). Reservations are encouraged and walk-ins are welcome too.
You can also enjoy more festive fun with Santa's North Pole Outpost on Dec. 4, 11, & 18 (from 11AM to 2PM) and Storytime with Ms. Claus on Dec. 11 & 18 at 7PM.
Mohican Lodge in Perrysville
Save room for the Breakfast with Santa buffet happening on select dates (Dec. 4, 18, 19 & 23 from 8-10AM) at the Mohican Lodge. Take and enjoy pictures that’ll last a lifetime during this picture-perfect opportunity. Reservations are encouraged, call Mohican Lodge (419-938-5411 ext 325) today to schedule.
