There's something wonderful about a perfect pair. Cookies and milk, peanut butter and jelly – it's clear that some things are just meant to be together. Lucky for you (and me), coffee and chocolate are no different. Both coffee and chocolate treats can be found in a variety of unique and fun flavors – easily complementing each other, all while satisfying your sweet tooth.
Your next "treat yourself" moment lies ahead! Read up on some of the best coffee and chocolate pairings you can find right here in Ohio.
Malley's Chocolates + Peaberry's Cafe and Bakery
If there's fruit in it – it’s healthy, right? Sip on the Fireside Raspberry Mocha at Peaberry’s Café and Bakery in Boardman, where this twist on a standard mocha adds a touch of raspberry leaving a subtle, sweet taste.
Fusing perfectly with fruity flavors is a classic milk chocolate, found in the Malley Ohs from Malley's Chocolates. Milk chocolate surrounds a well-known chocolate sandwich cookie, making a classic delicious and decadent.
Fluff Bakery + Donkey Coffee
If Chai Lattes are warm hugs in a cup, then Donkey Coffee makes the best hugs. Get their classic Chai or change it up with their seasonal spices and flavors. If you're in need of an energy boost, like many of the students who frequent this artistic joint, then go for the Power Chai. Ordering Donkey Coffee will boost your Karma points because they specialize in exclusively selling fair trade coffee and local goods – right down to the milk in your lattes!
Pair a vanilla chai with Fluff Bakery's cream cheese swirl brownies and you've got yourself a winning combination. Not only is this spunky bakery chock full of creative comfort food, they're also conveniently just a few steps away from Donkey.
Dietsch Brothers + Coffee Amici
Get the best of both worlds (chocolate and vanilla worlds - that is) by sipping on a vanilla latte at Findlay's Coffee Amici, a charming downtown spot known for not only its incredible brews.
The vanilla latte blends seamlessly with a scrumptious truffle from Dietsch Brothers, also in Findlay. You'll discover quite the collection – red raspberry, mint, hazelnut, sea salt caramel and more! No matter your choice, the lightness of the latte will nicely accompany the heavier, fuller taste of the truffle.
Winans Coffee + Chocolates + Fox in the Snow Cafe
There's no doubt about it, Ohio-based Winan's Chocolates + Coffees knows how to make some sweet treats. Now in their fifth generation of family-ownership, you can be sure that whatever chocolate delicacy you indulge in is made to perfection. Try their wurtles (Winans + Turtles = Wurtles). A choice of nut is mixed into chewy caramel and covered with chocolate.
Coffee and milk are already a tried-and-true combination – pair Winan's wurtles with a cappuccino from the cozy and eclectic Fox in the Snow Café. You'll find both work together to create a sweet, creamy and intense flavor experience.
Note: All Fox in the Snow locations are closed for Winter Break from Jan. 10-16.
Maverick Chocolate Company + Collective Espresso
See (and smell!) the entire chocolate-making process by visiting Maverick Chocolate Company at the Findlay Market in Cincinnati, a shop that prides itself on creating their chocolate from bean-to-bar. Savor one of their dark chocolate confections, like the Tanzania Dark Chocolate, made with only two ingredients. This chocolate bar may be no-nonsense – but it's full of flavor.
Pair up with an espresso or pour over from Collective Espresso, where the coffee, too, sticks to the basics. You can't go wrong with a traditional latte. For something sweet(er), try their Honey Latte.
