Winter in Ohio is one of the most beautiful times to explore a state park during an organized winter hike. Each year the Ohio Department of Natural Resources invites outdoor enthusiasts and hiking beginners alike to join in the fun on a winter hike. Embrace the season and plan your next trip in Ohio with this list of winter hikes.

Hocking Hills State Park in Logan

Take advantage of two organized hikes this winter at Hocking Hills State Park (see below). Most years, hikers can enjoy amazing frozen ice formations covering the natural landscape.

  1. Christmas in Ash Cave – Dec. 14 at 5PM
    Winter Solstice Hike – Dec. 21 at 10 AM
  2. Winter Hike – Jan. 18 at 9 AM
  3. Sweetheart’s Hike – Feb. 8 at 5 PM

Hueston Woods State Park in College Corner

Although “College Corner” might suggest that Hueston Woods is located in a busy college town, this State Park is safely nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Miami University. The state park offers two organized hikes this winter for you to take in the picturesque landscapes of Butler and Preble counties.

  1. First Day Hike – Jan. 1 at 11 AM
  2. Sweetheart’s Stroll – Feb. 15 at 2 PM

Malabar Farm State Park in Lucas

Head to the glaciated Appalachian Plateau region and former estate of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield for two organized hikes this winter. Stroll through the park and gaze at the beauty that is the backdrop of Bromfield’s biography.

  1. Winter Hike – Jan. 11 at 10 AM
  2. Winter Hike for Health – Feb. 8 at 9 AM
