With just a few days left of summer break before kids head back to school, many of us are squeezing in late summer excursions and visits to the swimming pool to cap off what has been quite a busy and exciting summer.
Ohio was in the spotlight in a major way this summer with the tremendous success of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The city received glowing reviews as it hosted 50,000 visitors and media from across the country in mid-July.
In the spirit of reinforcing the joy, happiness and excitement that can be found in Ohio,TourismOhio was proud to debut our “Joy Ride” bus on which visitors could try on virtual reality goggles which brought to life sixteen different Ohio experiences using 360-degree virtual reality video. We were thrilled to have an estimated 2,700 people stop by the Joy Ride with approximately 1,300 trying out the virtual reality experience.
Cincinnati was also host to a major convention in July, garnering praise as the site for the NAACP Annual Convention which brought in 10,000 visitors. More recently, the Ohio State Fair wrapped up in Columbus and the Development Services Agency/TourismOhio “Excitement-Ohio. Find it Here” booth was a visitor favorite in the Bricker Building; booth attendance averaged around 1,000 per weekday and 2,500 per day on weekends.
with this summer’s many big events under our belt, TourismOhio is experiencing dynamic momentum, and we want to make sure it continues. You can help build the momentum by participating in the 2017 Co-Op. We invite you to join the more than one hundred industry partners from across the state who are currently enjoying the benefits of the Co-Op. We also encourage you to share our industry’s 2015 economic impact numbers when communicating with your stakeholders.
As we look ahead, be sure to check out the newly released Fall/Winter Ohio Calendar of Events, and we hope that you’ll be a part of the 2017 Ohio Travel Guide. To have your free listing considered for inclusion, please be sure to verify your listing on the Ohio.org Listing & Events Database by August 19.
Thanks for all you do to deliver on the visitor experience.
For the Good of Ohio,
