The team had some fantastic meetings with writers and editors from publications including: Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Budget Travel, Shermans Travel, Scholastic Parent & Child, Parents magazine, Family Travel Forum, Mashable, MLB.com and a freelance writer/blogger for Huffington Post, Forbes and other outlets.
Overall, we found that there is a growing appetite to learn about Midwestern states, formerly considered part of the flyover region. This new attitude made our messaging of Ohio as a viable tourism destination very relevant in the meetings. Ohio is a place where the rustbelt image has fallen by the wayside to new and ever increasing development of tourism businesses and experiences.
Many thanks to our Ohio tourism team who did an amazing job of representing and promoting our tourism opportunities: Jim Mahon, Akron/Summit Co. CVB; Julie Calvert, Cincinnati USA; Lexi Hotchkiss, Destination Cleveland; Carl Harp, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum; and Joe Crowley, Eldora Speedway.
Tamara Brown, TourismOhio public relations manager, will be providing some tips and information from the media appointments on our Ohio Tourism Industry Facebook group page. If you’re not already a group member, we encourage you to join us: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OhioTourismIndustry/.
