I wanted to share with you an opportunity to learn more about the work being done to promote the Appalachian region as a travel destination. On Wednesday, September 9, at 11:00 AM, Director Mihalik and I will participate in the 2020 Appalachian Regional Commission’s Summer Showcase event "Attracting the Socially Distant Tourist."
Many Appalachian communities have invested in their natural and cultural assets to build sustainable economic development plans. With social distancing and travel restrictions in place, the COVID crisis has forced a rethinking of these strategies. This discussion will ask how Appalachia’s tourist economy has pivoted to continue economic progress.
Director Mihalik will moderate a panel featuring Katy Brown of the Barter Theatre in Virginia, Jeff Lusk of the Hatfield McCoy Regional Recreation in West Virginia, and myself.
