Looking for unique accommodations for your next getaway? Whether planning a romantic escape, getaway or family vacation, Ohio offers plenty one-of-a-kind lodging options. From historic jailhouses to Medieval castles, glamping in style or camping on the water and railroad cars to places among the trees. Check out these nine lodging experiences:

Royal Respite

Crown yourself royalty for the day and experience a unique getaway at one of Ohio’s castle hotels. Brimming with Medieval-themed décor and modern amenities, guests will sleep like royalty in fairy-tale forests primeval at Landoll’s Mohican Castle and Ravenwood Castle

Glamping

Spend the night glamping in style in a modern yurt. A round tent-like structure comprised of a wooden frame and canvas walls, yurts traditionally are used as portable houses by nomadic cultures of central Asia. Modern yurts offer luxurious amenities such as electricity, heat and air conditioning and private bathrooms, making glamping in a yurt a fun and unique experience. You’ll find luxury yurts at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, The Wilds, and more primitive yurts at Kelleys Island State Park Campground and Delaware State Park Campground.

Scenic River Float

Make the Miami River your waterbed by sleeping in a Shoal Tent. The first of its kind, an inflatable floating raft with a tent topper, makes for the perfect outdoor adventure for nature enthusiasts. Not only is it a cool experience, Troy is currently the only place in the world where you can sleep on the water in one of these unique tents!

Hoppy Hibernation

As the world’s first craft beer hotel, BrewDog’s DogHouse features more than 30 beer-themed rooms complete with a draft beer on tap in every room. You’ll wake up to the aromas of brewing, have a beer-paired breakfast and enjoy your favorite BrewDog beer poured straight from the tap in the comforts of your hotel room. The DogHouse just might be the happiest place on earth for craft beer lovers! Or for those looking for a smaller pour, try The Kennels -- rooms above the Short North BewDog bar.

Sleeper Car

Vintage railroad cars converted into unique accommodations ignite the imaginations of all ages! Train enthusiasts and kids of any age will love to spend the night in a fully renovated train car. The Hocking Hills CabooseThe Victoria Station at Sugarcreek Village Inn, The Caboose at Dutch Creek Retreat (at Dutch Creek Winery near Athens) and B & O Caboose all offer unique train car accommodations with the comforts of home. Bring your own clackety-clack sound track to complete the relaxing ambiance of your personal sleeper car.

Cabin in the Woods

Nestle yourself away in the woods in unique structures like the cabents at South Bass Island State Park. Or go *almost* completely off-grid at a tiny cabin in Lisbon. For a truly unique stay, book some time away at The Box Hop - or the newer Boho Box Hop - a cabin crafted from storage containers. But you won't feel stuffed in, thanks to the gorgeous views of Hocking Hills that surround you.

Among the Treetops

Relive your childhood dream of camping out in a treehouse. The Mohicans offers eight treehouses, from rustic to quaint, and magical to modern. Or head over to Among The Trees Lodging, who offers three options: Buckeye Barn Tree House (rustic farmhouse feel), Maple View Tree House (which features views of the surrounding wooded ravine) and Safari Tree House (a romantic escape, perfect for two).

Bedtime Behind Bars

Originally built in 1910 as Vermilion’s library and later constructed to be the town’s jailhouse, the historic Old Vermilion Jailhouse now accommodates guests in a unique bed and breakfast setting. Updated with modern amenities and décor, you’ll be in for a fun treat during your stay, as the Old Vermilion Jailhouse is currently the only privately-owned Jailhouse bed and breakfast in the world!

Mid-Century Modern

Built in 1949 by the Lustron Corporation during the housing boom after WWII, this mid-century home is one of the few Lustron homes remaining. Located in West Alexandria, the 1,000-square-foot home will transport you back to a bygone era with 1950s furniture and décor with modern amenities.
