American Sign Museum Lights Up Ohio

The soft, inviting glow of neon signs have been a fixture of Americana for more than a century. Hundreds of these icons now have a permanent home in Cincinnati – at the American Sign Museum. As a native of the Queen City, I was shocked I hadn’t discovered this hidden gem of an attraction in my hometown until now. The American Sign Museum is certainly one of Ohio’s most unique attractions. The 19,000-square-foot facility features signs of all sizes and types of businesses. There’s Papa Dino’s Pizza Restaurant, Howard Johnson’s Ice Cream, McDonald’s, Provident Bank, Hudepohl Beer, Sunoco and so much more!! The museum is brilliantly designed featuring store fronts like a Hollywood movie set to show how these signs existed in their glory days. Plus, you can learn about some of the most iconic signs in history. Think of those giant light bulb illuminated signs from New York City in the early 1900s.

Some of my favorite signs were actually outside the museum. A massive bowling pin and even larger pig – so large it needs its own trailer – are great ways to welcome you into the museum. Many visitors have discovered the American Sign Museum as guests for a special event. Weddings, meetings, receptions and more have been held at this unique venue. Learn more about hosting a special event here. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  and Sunday, Noon – 4:00 p.m. General Admission is $15 with discounts for seniors, children, students, groups and military members. Guided tours are offered frequently.  Learn more about the museum here. For more travel inspiration, #FindItHere at Ohio.org.
