Fall in Ohio is spectacular! There are plenty of great spots to view fall foliage throughout the state and Burr Oak State Park is one of the top locations.

Located in Southeast Ohio, in the foothills of the Appalachians, Burr Oak State Park is a year-round destination for nature enthusiasts. With more than 2,500 acres of forested ridges and hollows, during the autumn, the forest displays remarkable colorful foliage.

Here are 5 fun ways to experience fall foliage in Burr Oak State Park:

Hiking

Immerse yourself in fall colors while hiking in the park, miles of trails will lead you through some of southern Ohio's most scenic landscapes. From easy Storybook Trails (great for children), short, moderate hikes, lengthy and difficult trails to an 18-mile backpacking trail (13 miles are part of the Buckeye Trail), there's plenty of hiking trails for every type of hiker.

Boating

Cruise the open waters of the 664-acre Burr Oak Lake. Surrounded by lush woods, seeing the colorful leaves reflect off the lake is a sight to behold. Be sure to watch for wildlife on the shore and bald eagles and osprey that swoop down to pluck fish from the water.

The lake features four launch ramps and seasonal boat rentals can be found at Dock 1 and Dock 4.

Horseback Riding

Saddle up your horse and hit the park's bridle trails for a fun way to spot the changing leaves. Burr Oak State Park features nearly eight miles of bridle trails, and the campground has an equestrian camp available for those who enjoy overnight getaways with their horse.

If you're looking for guided trail rides and horse rentals, located seven miles from Burr Oak State Park is Smoke Rise Ranch.
